As you look toward wrapping up the school year and planning for next fall consider these three
metrics when choosing evidence-based programs.
- Impact the program has on student achievement and SEL/ASCA competencies such as
social skills, self-management/regulation, executive functioning, feeling connected to
school, classroom climate, learning skills, and pro-social behavior. - Cost. Both for the program and any consumables. Also, whether training is needed.
- Time it takes to fully implement as designed.
Recently, when our team surveyed the top 10 programs in CASEL’s Guide to Evidence-based Programs, we found that the Student Success Skills programs were:
- At the top on impact to achievement and SEL/ASCA competencies,
- At the low end of cost when only the manual was purchased and in the middle range
when training was added, - At the low end regarding amount of time needed to implement fully.
Of the top 10 CASEL programs we also found that the SSS programs were the only ones designed to be implemented by the school counselors, while the others all were designed to be implemented by the classroom teacher. We believe that school counselors are the most qualified to implement SEL/ASCA competency related programs in the school and hope you will
consider our Student Success Skills K-12 programs for your school next year.
